Orangefield 1st XI v Dunmurry YM
Orangefield needed a better performance than last week’s second half effort after nearly letting Bloomfield back into the game. Dunmurry YM were today’s visitors to Gibson Park and after winning 6-2 against Orangefield earlier in the season in a cup match, the home team needed no more motivation to go out and leave an impression in the last game before the Christmas break.
The game started with some tasty challenges in the Orangefield half, the away side wanting to prove they were up for the game too. Ryan Hardy and Sam McNaul left no doubt though that Orangefield wouldn’t be bullied out of the game and hit some great challenges, spurring the home side on. With Wilson also solid in defence, Orangefield pushed forward and got several corners on the trot, Jonny Gibson swinging them into the front post looking for the flick on. On the third attempt Clarke Dempster met the ball well and provided a good flick to the back post where Andy D’Arcy knocked the ball into the net for his third of the season.
The momentum was now with Orangefield and they pushed forward again, with Clarkey getting a shot on target. The ball was pushed out by the keeper, but Jonny Gibson was there to stick it in to make it 2-0.
Harvey, again working well with Clarkey up front, knocked in number three before adding a fourth shortly before half-time, making it look easy notching up goals 12 and 13 for the season.
Brian Reynolds and Dean Cousins were working hard in midfield and Reynolds was almost rewarded with a goal with a nice lob over the keeper, but it hit the upright and came back out for Dunmurry to clear.
Half-time: 4 - 0
With Dunmurry pushing forward looking to get back in the game, it wasn’t long before a space opened up in their defence and Harvey was there to complete another hat-trick. Good reward for his hard work up front.
Dunmurry pulled a goal back when they headed in from a corner, getting the better of the Orangefield defence. And on their next break forward after a misplaced Orangefield pass, the away side got a second. Orangefield had perhaps been guilty of pushing too many forward and needed to get their shape back in order to see out the rest of the game.
On another surging run forward, Brian Reynolds was put through by a well placed through ball from Cousins and finished with a good shot placed under the keeper. And to round off another decent afternoon for the midfielder and the team Reynolds scored his second and the teams seventh with another cool finish, sliding past the keeper into the corner of the net.
Full-time: 7 - 2
