Orangefield 1st XI v Lisburn Rangers
Lisburn Rangers were the visitors to Gibson Park this afternoon, and after a good start to the season would be expecting all 3 points.
The home side started off brightly enough, seeing plenty of the ball and keeping possession well. It was an even first half with neither side looking overly threatening until John was through on goal and was brought down by the keeper in the box. Up stepped Dean Cousins who struck it well, but the keeper guessed right and kept a strong hand to keep it out.
Half-time: 0-0
The second half continued much the same as the first with neither side wanting to concede. Orangefield were getting some space out on the left hand side but neither flank was used effectively, which ruled the wingers out of much of the game. But the home side soon got their break when the ball was loose in the Lisburn penalty area and big John was able to lash it home from eight yards out.
Soon after, Lisburn went on the attack, pushing a defender into midfield and a midfielder up front. Orangefield held on for about 15 minutes before a break down the left hand side resulted in a good ball in, with the Lisburn attacker side footing into the net.
Orangefield almost regained the lead straight away when Brian Reynolds went on a run down the left hand side and whipped a super ball across the front of goal, but it was just out of reach of the Orangefield players coming in.
From then on it was all Lisburn, the home side finding it difficult to get out of their own half. The away side had two goals ruled out for offside, and the home team were probably lucky to come away with a draw.
