Orangefield 1st XI v 1st Bangor
Inconsistent form so far this season has seen Orangefield lose points in games where they really should be collecting all three. Last week against 10 men Bryansburn should have meant back to back wins, but a lack of energy and aggression saw the away side going home as winners.
To regain that winning mentality, Orangefield needed to take the game to this weeks opponents, 1st Bangor.
A good start in midfield by both Tony Craig and Dean Cousins meant Orangefield kept possession better than the last game and made good use of Darryl Finlay wide on the right. Indeed Finlay caused the Bangor left back some problems and got some good balls into the box early on.
The away side were limited to pumping long balls forward from the defence, but these were easily cut out by the Orangefield defence and goalkeeper Andy McIntyre.
Orangefield were threatening throughout the first half, and on the half hour mark some great individual play by big John saw him round the keeper and fire into the roof of the net.
Half-time: 1-0
1st Bangor came out in the second half looking to get a goal back and pushed a midfielder further forward. Orangefield weathered the storm for a period of about 15 minutes and were lucky when a player outside the box wasn’t closed down quick enough and shot against the post from 25 yards out. Had that went in 1st Bangor may have came on stronger looking for a second goal, but it was Orangefield who got the next goal when big John fired in his second of the day, securing the three points for the home side.
Orangefield need to find some consistency and take their good form into every game, every player working hard for the full 90 minutes.
