Ballynahinch v Orangefield 1st XI

After a poor display against Dundonald on the opening day of the season, Orangefield needed to step up a gear or two to get some points on the board. Away to Ballynahinch is never an easy game, and so Orangefield needed to make a good start here.

The game started with Orangefield playing at a good tempo, Tony Craig winning the early tackles and the side keeping good possession of the ball.

Chances in front of goal started to appear, and it wasn’t long before Clarkey connected on the volley and slid one underneath the Ballynahinch goalkeeper. Ballynahinch eventually made their way back into the game, but some solid defending from Brian Reynolds and Ryan Hardy ensured Orangefield went in at the break 1-0 up.

Half-time: 0-1

The OOBs started the second half in good form and again went close with a few chances. Harvey, looking for his first goal of the campaign came close on several occasions but just couldn’t get one between the posts. He did play a vital part in the second goal however when he made a good run into the right side of the box and fired a low ball across the six yard box for Jonny Gibson to side foot home.

A couple of late free kicks given away around the box by Orangefield could have let the home side back into it, but the goalkeeper and his wall made sure of a clean sheet on the night.

Full-time: 0-2
