Dundonald v Orangefield 1st XI

As Orangefield learned last year, the opening game of the season is always started at a frantic pace and the team who can meet this head on is in with the best chance of winning.

Unfortunately for the OOBs, Dundonald dictated the pace of the game in the first half and effectively killed the game off by half-time.

Orangefield kept good possession in the first 5 minutes, before a sloppy pass gave the ball to Dundonald who broke forward and opened the scoring to make it 1-0 to the home side.

A shot from the right hand side came back off the post and the Dundonald forward was first to react and side footed into the back of the net. Rather than using this as a wake up call Orangefield let in Dundonald again 2 minutes later from a corner and found themselves 2-0 down. A stupid penalty after a rash challenge gave Dundonald a third before they made it 4-0 at half-time after some good work down the right by the energetic right winger.

Half-time: 4-0

The game was over by half time, but fortunately Orangefield restored a little pride in themselves by working much harder second half, and indeed created a couple of chances, but the finish wasn’t there.

Hopefully Orangefield can learn from this match and go into the mid week match at Ballynahinch with a more determined attitude.

Full-time 4-0
