Community Cup 2007
Orangefield Old Boys hosted the inaugural Community Cup at their East Belfast home, Cregagh Sports Club. The event was supported by the PSNI and took place at the end of July. Four Under 13 teams, Crumlin Utd from Dublin, Groomsport, Oliver Plunkett and Orangefield Colts competed in a league basis for the trophy. The games were extremely competitive but played in a great sporting spirit. The opening game saw Crumlin draw with Groomsport 0 – 0. The score was repeated in the next match between Orangefield and Oliver Plunkett. However the goals flowed in the next games with the impressive Crumlin getting a grip of the tournament beating Orangefield 3 – 0. Oliver Plunkett responded with a 2 – 0 victory over Groomsport setting up an all or nothing game against Crumlin. Despite a brave performance by Oliver Plunkett Crumlin were just too strong coming out as winners 3 – 1 to lift the cup. The event was complimented with a Community Fun day, producing a carnival atmosphere for the day which was enjoyed by all who took part players and spectators alike.
